George began training grappling in late 2016 with the initial intention of transitioning into mixed martial arts (MMA). After his first introductory jiu-jitsu class where he felt powerless versus more experienced white belts, he was hooked. His transition to MMA never happened as he became increasingly addicted to grappling. George spent most of his primary and high school years playing basketball but slowly lost his passion for it. Simultaneously, he grew increasingly interested in the UFC and the practical component of self-defence that combat sports offered. Initially, it was the self-defence aspect that was most appealing, then the fascination with techniques and finally the science of how we acquire competency in a skill. George has consistently sought the best training possible both within Australia and abroad to expand his knowledge and skillset. Most recently, in 2022, he received his purple belt under ADCC trials champion Keller Loche-Sodhi. George consistently watches instructional material, studies high-level matches, and trains most days of the week to ensure he’s providing the best possible coaching to his students. In addition, George loves the community aspect of grappling and the diverse characters that make up its components. If you have a peculiar area of expertise or knowledge unrelated to grappling, he will want to know about it.
